The Cinematic Orchestra - Ma Fleur: Live At The Barbican [2007]
Their most recent album Ma Fleur may have moved them at times a little closer to the mainstream, but this is a timely reminder of their ability to appeal to both the chillout crowd and those who hanker after more intense, improvisatory material.
This is found in the wonderful sax work from Tom Chant in the Man With A Movie Camera and the Channel 1 Suite, forming parts three and four of this EP. First up is the vocalist Eska Mtungwazi, who lends her beguiling vocals to a hushed accompaniment. Jason Swinscoe's arrangements are vivid and colourful, lending the already familiar material extra life.
