George Howard - Do I Ever Cross Your Mind? [1992]

This is probably my favorite album by the late great George Howard, a successor in spirit to Grover Washinston Jr.and my Friend.. George Howard definitely infuses his music with a hip vibe that will keep your feet tapping. While the title track is a tender ballad, most of his music is funky and soulful. The vocals in this album are very fine with James Ingram, Phil Perry, and Carl Anderson, to name a few. "Try Again" is a fine ballad with George Howard's sax taking the lead over the vocals. "Cross Your Mind" is a beautiful and soulful ballad with George Howard not only on sax but lead vocal. His voice is tender and smooth. This is one of my very favorites.This is the place to start if you have not listened to George Howard.















George Howard - Asphalt Gardens [Rare][1982]

George Howard's polished fusion of funk, jazz and urban soul helped the soprano saxophonist become one of the most popular contemporary jazz performers of the '80s and '90s. Since he concentrated on groove and overall sound instead of improvisation, Howard never received much attention from jazz critics, but he retained a large audience well into his second decade of performing.

Howard began his musical career in the late '70s. He received his first break when Grover Washington, Jr., one of his musical idols, invited him on a tour in 1979. The tour helped establish Howard's name, and in 1982 he released his debut album, Asphalt Garden, on Palo Alto.

It was re-released on CD, but it has gone out of print in the meantime and has become a collector's item.
