Al B. Sure - In Effect Mode [1988]
Al B.Sure burst on to the scene with his HUGE single Nite And Day back in the summer of 1988. The new jack swing never sound better than did one the uptempo tracks Resuce Me, Off On Your Own (Girl) and my personal favorite If I'm Not Your Lover (the remix feat.Slick Rick is required for all old school DJ'S). The strength on this CD for me personally was in the ballads Oooh This Love Is So and Naturally Mine both of which still make their way on to my mix CD'S.

Al B. Sure! - Private Times...and the whole 9 [1990]
Al B. Sure! is one of those that star only shone brightly for a short period. He hit the music world in a big way with his freshman album from 1988 "In Effect Mode" which had a monster smash with "Nite and Day", a New Jack swing tune that seemed to stay on the radio forever. Because of the overwhelming success of his first-time out, the artist returned two years later with the mammoth-in-length "Private Nine".
Exploring some of the same themes as in the first one, Al's voice was never more seductive and his lyrics were no less alluring. He even tried his had at remaking a classic in his soulful reworking of The Eagle's "Hotel California", the first cut and the obvious highlight of the entire release. If you are already a fan of Al B. Sure, you will appreciate it.

Al B. Sure! - Sexy Versus [1992]
Al B. Sure delivered to us his final album in which had some moments but did not appeal to a lot of critics back in '92 when the changing of the guard was going away from the new jack swing movement into the g-funk movement. The album starts off promising with hits like "Right Now", "U&I", "Natalie". Then I can see where the album hits a snag with the uptempo songs that was kind of outdated for its time. Now Devante from Jodeci did produce some of the uptempo tracks along with Al B's cousin Kyle West & Howie Tee but it just was not appealing. Then the album gets back on track with my favorite song on the album "Die For You", this song is very underrated because if you really listen to message, it talks about loving your mate unconditionally that you would literally die for them, to me that is true love. Then the next track "I'll Never Hurt You Again" is another great slow jam that really talks about true love.

Al B. Sure! - Nite And Day [1992]
During the late '80s, Al B. Sure! enjoyed a brief run as one of new jack swing's most popular romantic singers. Born Al Brown in Boston, he grew up in Mount Vernon, NY, listening to smooth crooners like Marvin Gaye and Johnny Mathis; he later became interested in rap and added that skill to his vocal repertoire. At age ten, he and a friend performed on a song written by Ellie Greenwich for the soundtrack of Sesame Street, and later he began writing songs with his cousin Kyle West. While in high school (where he quarterbacked the football team), he became friends with Edward Ferrell, aka DJ Eddie F, who was working with rapper Heavy D at the time. Eddie F introduced the still-teenaged Al B. Sure! to Heavy D's manager/Uptown label head Andre Harrell, who had him sing backing vocals on several Heavy D tracks and helped him get a deal with Warner Brothers. Featuring production from DJ Eddie F and a number of co-writes with West, Al B. Sure!'s debut album, In Effect Mode, was released in 1988 and became a platinum-selling sensation thanks to the single "Nite and Day," which reached the Top Ten on the pop charts and topped the R&B charts for three weeks. The follow-up, "Off on Your Own (Girl)," was also a number one R&B hit, and he became a bona fide star among urban audiences, though he didn't remain a presence on the pop charts. His second album, Private Times...and the Whole 9, appeared in 1990 and produced another R&B number one in "Misunderstanding," as well as a duet with Diana Ross called "No Matter What." His third album, 1992's Sexy Versus, wasn't as successful, and he took a hiatus from recording, eventually landing a vice president position at Motown. In 1996, he survived a potentially nasty car accident in New York, and in 2002, he began hosting a quiet storm-style radio show in the San Francisco Bay Area, although rumors of a new album remained unsubstantiated.

Al B.Sure - The Best Of Al B. Sure [2003]
Bottom line is Al B.Sure! was original, smooth and very well recieved when he took the scene in the 80's. His smooth vocals made it very easy to get close on the dancefloors thru~out high school. This is a ideal collection to get for the fans out there that want to consolidate Al B.'s hits and not so big hits but good tunes never the less. Examples like "Natalie" a sexy, smooth groove a bit lusty, is one of my favorites from Al B. Also included is a different, new jack smooth jazz influenced version of "Hotel California"...classic rock fans may not like this one but he was tryin' to expand his repetoire at this point looking in different directions to come off fresh...it's a cool version. "Killing me softly" is here also...i really like this version...nothing like the original but I like this one. Of course his biggest hits are found here..."Off on your own(Girl)" and "If i'm not your lover" along with Misunderstanding" are Al B. Sure!'s New Jack Dance hits...
...Secret garden was Quincy Jones, Barry White, El Debarge, James Ingram & of course Al B. together on what is easily one of the best slow grooves of the times...New Jack, Sexyness, "for the ladies Slow Grooves"...Al B. Sure has all of my favorites from him here. I loved his music back in the day and i still do today...i still get requests for his music as a Dj so it's cool to go back with his cuts....This is a sure thing CD...a very well rounded mix of the 80's sound Jazzy, sexy, soulful and a bit ballsy back in the day...loved it then, love it now!
