Sleep Walker - Works [2006]

Sleepwalker is the tokyo jazz quartet produced by Shuya Okino of Kyoto Jazz Massive. This record has some really good original songs, reminiscent of the great Coltrane quartet of the 60's. The playing is on a very high level, they may not blow you away with their technical skills but there is so much heart and feel. Saxophonist is very heavily influenced by Pharoah Sanders. I especially enjoy the piano player Hajime Yoshizawa. There are electronica sounds over the top of these very straight ahead jazz tunes which gives you the sense that this could be played in a dance club as well as in your living room.

In December 2003 Sleep Walker performed for four consecutive nights at the Jazz Cafe in London alongside Pharoah Sanders. They also toured as a headliner act to enthusiastic crowds of over 2000 in Slovenia, Croatia and Austria along with Kyoto Jazz Massive, UFO (United Future Organisation), Chari Chari and DJ Moochy.
